»Opera Bridge« ist ein Erasmus+-Forschungsprojekt der Musikkultur Rheinsberg gGmbH und des Opera Collective Ireland (OCI). Im Zentrum steht die Frage, wie der Übergang von der künstlerischen Ausbildung in den europäischen Opernmarkt heute gelingen kann: Was brauchen junge Opernsänger*innen, um langfristig eine künstlerische Karriere aufzubauen?

»Opera Bridge« is an Erasmus+ research project run by Musikkultur Rheinsberg gGmbH and Opera Collective Ireland (OCI). It focuses on the question of how young artists can successfully transition from their artistic training into the European opera market today: what do young opera singers need in order to build a long-term artistic career?


Worum geht es?

Der Berufseinstieg stellt eine herausfordernde Phase dar, und nicht selten tritt hier eine Lücke zwischen den vor allem künstlerischen Inhalten der Ausbildung und den tatsächlichen Anforderungen des Arbeitsmarktes zutage: Wie entwickle ich ein gutes Zeit- und Stressmanagement? Wie gehe ich mit Verträgen, Steuern und sozialer Absicherung um? Wie baue ich eine authentische digitale Präsenz auf? Welche Rechte habe ich an meinem Bild und meiner Stimme? Wie verhandle ich ein faires Honorar? Welche Kompetenzen brauche ich, um Agenturen, Festivals, Opernhäuser und Publikum nachhaltig zu überzeugen? An wen kann ich mich wenden, wenn ich Unterstützung brauche? Welche Besonderheiten sind bei internationalen Engagements zu beachten?  

»Opera Bridge« bietet Raum für Erfahrungsaustausch und verbindet Weiterbildungsmodule, Forschung und Vernetzungsformate miteinander. 14 Opernsänger*innen aus Deutschland und Irland am Beginn ihrer künstlerischen Laufbahn erhalten die Möglichkeit, Wissen zu teilen, gemeinsam zu lernen, praktisch auszuprobieren und mit Unterstützung durch Expert*innen ihr Portfolio weiterzuentwickeln.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Starting a career is a challenging phase, and it is not uncommon to encounter a gap between the mainly artistic content of one’s education and the actual requirements of the job market: How do I develop good time and stress management skills? How do I deal with contracts, taxes, and social security? How do I build an authentic digital presence? What rights do I have to my image and my voice? How do I negotiate a fair fee? What skills do I need to convince agencies, festivals, opera houses, and audiences in the long term? Who can I turn to if I need support? What special considerations need to be taken into account for international engagements?
Opera Bridge offers a space for sharing experiences and combines continuing education modules, research, and networking formats. Fourteen opera singers from Germany and Ireland at the beginning of their artistic careers are given the opportunity to share knowledge, learn together, try things out in practice, and further develop their portfolios with the support of experts.

Lernen und Forschen auf Augenhöhe 

Der europäische Opernsektor befindet sich im Wandel: mehr Freiberuflichkeit, neue digitale und ortsspezifische Formate, steigende Anforderungen an Selbstmanagement, Kommunikation und Medienkompetenz. »Opera Bridge« greift diese Entwicklungen auf und bringt junge Opernsänger*innen mit Vertreter*innen von Musikhochschulen, Weiterbildungseinrichtungen, Agenturen, Verbänden, Opernhäusern und Festivals zusammen, um gemeinsam aus individueller Praxis und struktureller Verantwortung heraus auf diese Tendenzen zu reagieren. 

Die 14 teilnehmenden Opernsängerinnen aus Deutschland und Irland werden dabei nicht nur als Lernende, sondern als Expert*innen ihrer eigenen Berufswirklichkeit verstanden. In vier praxisorientierten Workshops, zwei Expert*innen-Panels und einem filmischen Showcase-Konzert im Schlosstheater Rheinsberg entwickeln sie gemeinsam mit verschiedenen erfahrenen Mentor*innen künstlerische und unternehmerische Strategien für eine erfolgreiche und nachhaltige Karriereplanung. Gleichzeitig werden die unterschiedlichen Perspektiven, Bedarfe und Erfahrungen systematisch dokumentiert und analysiert: Welche Inhalte fehlen derzeit in der künstlerischen Opern-Ausbildung in Deutschland und Irland? Welche Kompetenzen sind im Berufsalltag von heute und morgen entscheidend?

Learning and research on equal terms

The European opera sector is undergoing a transformation: more freelance work, new digital and location-specific formats, increasing demands on self-management, communication, and media skills. Opera Bridge addresses these developments and brings together young opera singers with representatives from music academies, continuing education institutions, agencies, associations, opera houses, and festivals to respond to these trends based on individual practice and structural responsibility.

The 14 participating opera singers from Germany and Ireland are seen not only as trainees, but as experts in their own professional reality. In four practice-oriented workshops, two expert panels, and a multimedia showcase concert at the Schlosstheater Rheinsberg, they work with various experienced mentors to develop artistic and entrepreneurial strategies for successful and sustainable career planning. At the same time, the different perspectives, needs, and experiences will be systematically documented and analyzed: What content is currently missing from artistic opera training in Germany and Ireland? Which skills are crucial in the professional life of today and tomorrow?
